The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the police to provide security to a couple who claimed to be in danger of their lives after inter-religious marriage. The court has said that this couple should not be harassed by any person merely on the ground that he has objection to their marriage. Justice Subodh Abhyankar of the Indore bench of the High Court disposed of the petition of this couple living in Ujjain .
The couple, who had an inter-religious marriage, had said in their petition that the bride’s family was harassing them over the marriage and they felt their lives were in danger. The High Court said, “If the petitioners are adults and have married voluntarily, they should not be harassed by any person just because he has an objection to their marriage. The petitioners are certainly entitled to police protection to avoid any harassment.” The single bench asked the couple to approach the police with proof of their age and marriage and record a statement regarding who is threatening them.
