We should exercise and give our body enough sleep – Guleria

Indore(Team Newsbuddy). Former Director General of AIIMS New Delhi, Padma Shri Dr Randeep Guleria has said that if we want to protect our body from diseases, then we have to change our lifestyle. It is necessary for us to exercise every day as well as get enough sleep.

Guleria was addressing on the last day of the 64th Summer Lecture Series organized by Abhyas Mandal today. The topic of his lecture was Some steps towards better health. He said that usually a person thinks that I do not have any disease, it means that I am healthy. Believing so is the biggest mistake. It is our responsibility to stay healthy. We all should know how to be happy. From the year 1990 to 2016, there has been a lot of change in the condition of diseases suffered by people in our country. Since then, this change has progressed rapidly even in the period till now.

He said that earlier in our country people used to suffer from diseases like viral, cold, cough, swine flu. These diseases were easily controlled. Now the diseases that occur cannot be controlled easily. The biggest reason behind these diseases is our irregular routine. By bringing changes in our daily lifestyle, we can prevent more than 60% of those diseases which are fatal. Although there are 1440 minutes in a day, but we are not able to take out only 30 minutes from it for exercise. Even if we have to go a little distance from our house to get something, we do not go on foot but take the car. By doing exercise regularly, we can protect our body from many diseases.

He said that the second most important thing is diet. We should control our diet. Earlier we used to eat a lot of green vegetables, fresh fruits. Now we have come to fast food. Now our synthetic diet has increased. Due to this, we have started getting many diseases. To avoid these diseases, we should give up junk food and adopt green vegetables and fruits again. After this, the third important thing is alcohol, vaping and electric cigarettes. Today, even very young youth in our country are not untouched by this. E-cigarettes are sold outside many schools. Vaping damages the lungs. We should change our lifestyle habits.

He said that air pollution is also a serious challenge for our health. When the weather is bad, people start having trouble breathing. The more the traffic in the city increases, the more pollution will also increase. Dr Guleria said that at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep is necessary for a person every day. Today we see that many people sleep only for 4 to 5 hours. This less sleep is very fatal for their health. Due to this, many diseases are born. We should also pay attention to mental health along with our physical health. At this time, stress is increasing a lot in people’s lives. To stop this stress, we should also change our lifestyle. In our fast lifestyle, viruses of various diseases also spread at a fast pace. These viruses always come from animals and birds. If we want to stay healthy, then we have to take care of the health of birds, animals and planet along with our health.

This program was presided over by Indore division’s division commissioner Deepak Singh. In his address, he said that our goal is to write the prayer of development by combining the views of the government and the public. This is a platform for intellectual discussions. We have to pay attention to mental health, emotional health, social health and economic health along with our health. Today, our discussion time with family members is decreasing. When family members sit together, instead of talking to each other, they remain busy with their mobile phones.

At the beginning of the program, the guests were welcomed by Om Prakash Narela, Dr. Sharad Pandit, Abhinav Dhantokar, Father Lakara Prakash Pathak, Kumud Kothari. At the end of the program, the guests were presented with memorabilia by retired Inspector General of Police Madan Rane and social worker Tikamchand. President of Abhyas Mandal Rameshwar Gupta expressed his views. Also present at the function were former MP and former Speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan, Kripa Shankar Shukla, Archana Jaiswal, senior poet and litterateur Saroj Kumar, Dr Sunanda Jain, Dr Anil Bharani, as listeners in this lecture series.
