7th Prestige Indore International Film Festival opens on a colourful note

Noted film actor Annu Kapoor honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Indore: The 7th Prestige Indore International Film Festival commenced on a vibrant note in Indore on Thursday. Celebrated actor Annu Kapoor received the Lifetime Achievement Award, adding prestige to the opening ceremony.

Organized by the Prestige Institute of Management and Research, the festival kicked off with the screening of the Oscar-winning documentary, “The Elephant Whisperers.” This Tamil-language film captivated the audience with its heartwarming tale of an orphaned elephant in South India and the couple who became its foster parents.

Another highlight was the screening of “Love All,” directed by Sudhanshu Sharma. This film, showcasing a touching father-son story set against the backdrop of badminton, received a warm reception from the audience.

An interactive session with acclaimed actors Annu Kapoor and Vrijendra Kala provided valuable insights into the world of cinema and acting. They addressed queries from students and faculty, offering their experiences and perspectives.

Kapoor emphasized the importance of education and proper use of language in acting, reflecting on his journey from the popular quiz show “Antakshari” to the silver screen.

Brijendra Kala, a seasoned actor himself, spoke about his transition from theatre to cinema. He highlighted the importance for actors to garner recognition through their talent, regardless of their family background in the film industry.

Formally inaugurated by Annu Kapoor and Dr. Davish Jain, Chairman of the Prestige Education Foundation and Chancellor of Prestige University, the festival commenced at the Phoenix Citadel Mall bypass. Distinguished guests witnessed the ceremony.

Dr. Jain stressed that the festival goes beyond mere entertainment, aiming to foster exploration, inspiration, and growth. He emphasized its role in providing a platform for local talents from Indore and Madhya Pradesh to connect with international artists and gain diverse industry knowledge.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema, Dr. Jain presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Annu Kapoor.

The Swar Shraddha Award (posthumously) presented to the late Ustad Aamir Khan, the Sangeet Ambassador Award to classical singer Gautam Kale for his societal impact, while the Maillear Honour was given to Marianne Borgo

The event also saw the launch of “Sach Kahun,” a book by Kirti Singh Gaur.

The opening ceremony culminated in a “Mahfil-e-Sham” (cultural evening) at the Phoenix Citadel Mall, setting the stage for further enriching conversations and celebrations.

The festival’s second day promises exciting activities. The Dr. NN Jain 48 Hours Film Competition will challenge students to create short films within a tight timeframe on various themes. Masterclasses and one-on-one interactions are scheduled with French actress Marianne Borgo and Hindi film actors Shahbaz Khan and Arya Sharma. The day will conclude with an awards ceremony and open-air theater experience at the Phoenix Citadel Mall.
