Host Madhya Pradesh girls team in quarter finals

Indore: Host Madhya Pradesh girls continued their winning streak and secured a place in the quarter finals of the 74th Junior National Basketball Championship held in the city. The girls of MP remained undefeated in their group and defeated the strong Tamil Nadu team by 83-71 points in the last league match on Saturday. The men’s team of MP has also reached the knockout round.
In the competition organized at the local Emerald Heights International School, the women’s team of Madhya Pradesh faced the strong Tamil Nadu team in their last league match of Group-A on Saturday. Both the teams had shown aggressive play in the league matches so far and an exciting match was expected. This match lived up to the expectations and both the teams continued to attack each other. As the match progressed, it was not clear which team would win. But the players of MP strengthened their position by scoring points at crucial moments in continuous intervals. Gunvi Agarwal scored 30 points from the winning side while Khushipal Singh scored 28 points and Akshita scored 11 points. Tejasri M scored the highest 22 points, Crisolin Juana scored 15 and Anthaiya Daisy scored 14 points from Tamil Nadu.
MP Basketball Association President Kulwinder Singh Gill and General Secretary Avinash Anand said that the girls team of MP has booked a ticket to the last eight. In the other league matches of the day, in men’s group-A Punjab defeated Kerala by 72-65 points. Sahibjeet Singh scored the highest 25 points from the winning side. Jaddu Mann contributed 15 and Ujjwal contributed 12 points. In women’s group-B Gujarat defeated Punjab by 92-78 points. Ahana George scored 27 points from the winning side. Arvi Patel and Niyati Gohil scored 24-24 points. Komalpreet Kaur contributed 26 points from Punjab’s side. In men’s group A, Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi by 94-79 points. Jatin scored 22 points for Uttar Pradesh while Vedant Ranot and Harshit Tomar contributed 21-21 points. Captain Harsh scored 26 points for Delhi.

Tamil Nadu scored a century of points:

In group B of men’s category, Tamil Nadu defeated Andhra Pradesh by 100-42 points in a one-sided match. Tamil Nadu played aggressive game from the beginning, which continued till the end of the match. Arvind scored 20 and Mithun scored 15 points for Tamil Nadu. In group B of women’s category, Uttar Pradesh defeated strong team Chhattisgarh by 66-43 points. Sakshi scored 18 points for Uttar Pradesh and Ishika Singh scored 14 points for Chhattisgarh. In group B of men’s category, Rajasthan continued its winning streak and defeated Odisha by 68-26 points. Ajay Kushwaha scored the highest 17 points from the winning team. In group C of men’s category, Haryana defeated Uttarakhand by 66-44 points. Chirag’s 15 points contributed to Haryana’s victory. In the men’s category of the same group, Bengal defeated Himachal Pradesh by 72-66 points.
