Red alert for ‘extremely heavy’ rain in Kerala, Tamil Nadu

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of severe heat in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab till May 23, while a warning of heavy rain has been issued in Kerala and Tamil Nadu till May 21.

Monsoon is progressing rapidly

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said on the social media platform X that the southwest monsoon is progressing rapidly in the South Andaman Sea. On the other hand, Skymet, a private agency providing information about the weather, has said that a circulation has formed above sea level over the Comorin region and South Tamil Nadu coast. At the same time, an area of ​​​​cyclonic winds has formed over southern Bangladesh. Skymet has also reported that the southwest monsoon is expected to advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Nicobar Islands in the next 24 hours.

Chances of rain in these states in the next 24 hours

According to the Meteorological Department, during the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain may occur in Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Odisha. Apart from this, heavy rain with thunder is also expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Meteorological Department has said that moderate rain is likely in southern Chhattisgarh, South Konkan and Goa and South Central Maharashtra. Apart from this, light rain may occur in Western Himalayas, Vidarbha, Marathwada and southern Madhya Pradesh.
