CAS justice :Vinesh Phogat to get medal despite losing
2 min readParis (Team Newsbuddy): There have been many controversies during the Paris Olympics 2024, one of the major cases of which is that of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh was already disqualified for being 100 grams overweight, and her case is still pending in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Vinesh is still awaiting the verdict.
Another similar incident at the Paris Olympics also happened with Romanian female gymnast Ana Barbosu. Ana Barbosu was initially declared the bronze medalist, while American gymnast Jordan Chiles was in fifth place. However, Chiles’ coach demanded an immediate investigation of her score, after which her score was increased by 0.1, and she came to the bronze medal position.
The Romanian Olympic Committee disagreed with this decision and appealed to CAS. The Romania Gymnastics Federation asked CAS to re-examine Chiles’ score, and it was found that Chiles’ coach Cecil Landi had appealed 4 seconds after the deadline. Due to this, Chiles’ score was deducted, and Ana Barbosu was again declared the bronze medal winner. Now Ana Barbosu has been given the bronze medal, while the medal has been taken back from Jordan Chiles.
At the same time, Vinesh Phogat’s case is also going on in CAS. The Indian wrestler has argued that she should be given the silver medal. However, no final decision has come in this matter yet. Vinesh is waiting for the CAS decision to come on August 13. If Vinesh gets this medal, it will be India’s second silver and overall 7th medal in this Olympics.
