Priyanuj , Syndrela face tough challenges

Kangra (Team Newsbuddy): In the UTT National Ranking Championships at Rainbow Khelo India Residential Academy, top-seed Priyanuj Bhattacharrya from Assam made a dramatic entry into the Youth Boys Under-17 pre-quarterfinals. He narrowly defeated Arya Kataria of Gujarat 3-2 in a thrilling match that saw him resist a 0-2 deficit to level the score and eventually win.

Other standout performances in the round of 32 included West Bengal’s Pratyush Mondal and Priyanshu Karmakar, and Sudhanshu Maini from AAI. All faced tough challenges from their opponents but managed to advance to the pre-quarterfinals, which will be played later tonight.

The Youth Under-17 Girls’ matches also showcased exciting play. Top-seed Syndrela Das narrowly edged out Tanishka Kalbhairav of Karnataka 3-2. Third seed Diya Brahmachary had a close call against Tushti Sood of Delhi, winning 3-2 after a challenging contest. Another intense match featured Vanshika Mudgal of Delhi, who pushed Shreya Dhar of West Bengal to a decisive fifth game. Despite her strong performance, Shreya pulled it off to secure the last two crucial points to win.

Priyanuj Bhattacharrya’s match was dramatic as he initially trailed 0-2 but turned the game around by winning the next two games and ultimately the match. Arya Kataria, who started strong, struggled as the games progressed, allowing Priyanuj to advance.

Sudhanshu Maini demonstrated significant resilience despite losing the first game. He did well to challenge Debraj Bhattacharjee from Bengal, throughout the match. At 2-2, it was a close contest, but Sudhanshu fell short in the end.

In the girls’ category, Diya Brahmachary maintained control of her match despite a strong comeback from Tushti Sood, who made the decider competitive. Diya’s precise play in the final game helped her secure victory.

Meanwhile, the main draw for men’s and women’s singles has begun, with several top female players receiving handy byes in the first round. The upcoming knockout rounds are anticipated to be intense, with the potential for significant upsets as the tournament progresses.
