As per health officials, health is key to lead a good life and with this belief, the Sai government is dedicated to provide enhanced health facilities for all citizens. Under the vision of good governance, Chhattisgarh is becoming healthier. Following the Chief Minister’s directives, Health Department is running a state-wide campaign aimed at improving health services and eliminating sickle cell anemia.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that it is our collective responsibility to eliminate sickle cell disease from Chhattisgarh and he called for everyone to work together toward this goal. The campaign aims to raise awareness about sickle cell disease while freeing the state from its impact.
As part of this effort, special camps are being held at the Panchayat, block and district levels to provide necessary treatment and medications to individuals up to 40 years of age based on identified symptoms. Additionally, sickle cell testing for every pregnant woman is being ensured to guarantee that all newborns are healthy and free of sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetic blood disorder that causes numerous health complications by altering the normal shape of red blood cells to a sickle form. This shape reduces the cells’ oxygen-carrying capacity and causes them to stick to blood vessels, obstructing oxygen supply to various organs. This can lead to symptoms such as body pain, difficulty breathing, and fever. It is important to note that there are two types of sickle cell carriers: those who are carriers do not exhibit serious symptoms but can pass the disorder to future generations.
