Migrant community demands direct train services from Indore to Darbhanga, Ranchi, Bhagalpur

3 min read

Indore(Team Newsbuddy): Millions of migrants from Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, who reside in Indore and the Malwa region have reiterated their long-standing demand for better rail connectivity to their native places. In this regard, the Purvottar Sanskritik Sansthan Madhya Pradesh, the largest organization representing the Purvanchal community in the state, has submitted a memorandum to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The memorandum calls for the introduction of direct train services between Indore and Darbhanga, Indore and Ranchi, daily operations of the Indore-Patna train, and the rerouting of the Indore-Guwahati train via Bhagalpur.
The memorandum was jointly sent by the organization’s president, Thakur Jagdish Singh, and general secretary, K.K. Jha. It highlights the challenges faced by migrants in maintaining connections with their roots due to insufficient rail services, particularly during festivals and special occasions, which see a surge in travel demand.

Direct train to Darbhanga

Darbhanga, a prominent cultural, educational, and economic hub in North Bihar, is a vital destination for many migrants in Indore. The memorandum emphasizes that a direct train between Indore and Darbhanga would not only facilitate travel but also strengthen cultural and social bonds between the Mithila and Malwa regions. Additionally, it would promote trade and religious tourism, further boosting the economies of both regions.

Ranchi connection: A lifeline for Jharkhand migrants

Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand and a key administrative, industrial, and educational center, is another priority destination for migrants. A direct train between Indore and Ranchi would cater to the needs of migrants, students, businesspeople, and laborers from Jharkhand, easing their travel woes and fostering economic opportunities.

Daily operations of Indore-Patna train

The memorandum also presses for the Indore-Patna train, currently running three times a week, to operate daily. The current tri-weekly schedule results in long waiting lists, making it inconvenient for passengers. A daily service would not only offer much-needed relief to travelers but also generate higher revenue for Indian Railways by catering to increased passenger demand.
The organization has proposed rerouting the Indore-Guwahati train via Bhagalpur, a key commercial and industrial hub in eastern Bihar. This rerouting would improve connectivity for Bhagalpur, Munger, and surrounding districts, stimulating regional economic growth and meeting the travel needs of thousands of migrants.
The memorandum underscores the significant migrant population from Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh residing in Indore and the Malwa region. The lack of adequate rail services has been a persistent issue, especially during festive seasons when trains witness heavy rushes and long waiting lists. Addressing these demands would alleviate travel hardships, strengthen socio-economic ties, and enhance the quality of life for migrants.
The Purvottar Sanskritik Sansthan has expressed optimism that the Ministry of Railways will respond positively to these long-pending demands. Fulfilling these requests would not only ease travel for millions of migrants but also strengthen cultural, social, and economic connections between Indore, Malwa, and the eastern regions of India. The community now eagerly awaits action, hoping for a favorable decision that will transform their travel experience and deepen inter-regional bonds.
