Indore: As the city gears up for New Year’s Eve, the Excise Department has tightened its grip on celebrations to ensure compliance with the law and maintain order. Organizers planning to serve alcohol at parties on December 31 must obtain proper licenses, failing which strict action will be taken.
Assistant Excise Commissioner Manish Khare confirmed that the department is closely monitoring events through social media and other platforms. Special teams have been formed to keep a vigilant eye on hotels, restaurants, resorts, and farmhouses hosting celebrations.
“All organizers must secure temporary licenses for serving alcohol and adhere to the guidelines. Unauthorized alcohol parties will face severe consequences,” Khare warned.
Adding to the enforcement efforts, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal submitted a memorandum to ACP Amit Singh, emphasizing the need for stringent measures during the celebrations. Their demands include, strict penalties for drunk driving, including vehicle seizures, mandatory closure of hotels and pubs by midnight, prohibition of firecrackers in public spaces, legal action against intoxicated minors, with bail granted only after 24 hours and restrictions on large-scale events to prevent public disturbances respectively.
