It’s showdown between PSPB – RSPB teams
3 min readSurat (Team Newsbuddy) : In a dramatic semifinal clash at the UTT 86th Senior National Inter-State Table Tennis Championships here today, top-seeded PSPB men secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Delhi to reach the finals. Despite initial setbacks, including G. Sathiyan’s unexpected loss in the opening match, the team recovered with standout performances from Ankur Bhattacharjee and Harmeet Desai. Sathiyan redeemed himself in the deciding match, narrowly escaping a defeat against Payas Jain to seal PSPB’s spot in the final.
In the other semifinal, RSPB overcame Assam 3-1, thanks to Anirban Ghosh’s crucial victories, including a tense reverse singles match. His resilience ensured RSPB’s place in the title match against the defending champions.
In the women’s category, RSPB edged out Maharashtra 3-0 in a tightly contested match, while PSPB dominated Gujarat with a comfortable 3-0 victory. RSPB players Sutirtha Mukherjee, Kaushani Nath, and Poymantee Baisya showed determination, overcoming stiff resistance from their opponents. PSPB women, led by Yashaswini Ghorpade, maintained composure to end the host team’s dream run.
In the men’s quarterfinals, PSPB and Delhi secured emphatic 3-0 wins over Telangana and Tamil Nadu, respectively. PSPB’s Sathiyan, Manav, and Harmeet delivered strong performances, while Delhi’s Yashansh, Payas, and Sudhanshu ensured their team’s victory. Assam edged past TTFI-1 (Rajasthan) 3-2, with Priyanuj Bhattacharyya’s two wins proving crucial. RSPB defeated Maharashtra 3-1, with Anirban Ghosh sealing the win despite Jeet Chandra losing to Chinmaya Somaiya.
PSPB and RSPB achieved straightforward 3-0 wins in the women’s quarterfinals over West Bengal and Delhi. Gujarat and Maharashtra advanced with 3-1 victories. Gujarat relied on standout performances from Oishiki Joardar and Krittwika Sinha Roy, while Maharashtra overcame Haryana, thanks to Taneesha Kotecha’s pivotal singles wins after Suhana Saini had given Haryana an early lead.
The finals promise an exciting battle as PSPB and RSPB teams compete for the coveted team titles, with individual brilliance and nerves of steel on full display.
