Indore(Team Newsbuddy): A 300-member delegation from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), led by Commissioner Rajendra Bhonsle and Kasba Assembly MLA Hemant Rasane, visited Indore to study its acclaimed solid waste management system. The delegation included deputy commissioners, supervisors, and numerous sanitation workers.
The team toured several key facilities, including the 400 TPD Mechanized Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Plant, the 550 TPD Bio-CNG Plant, the 100 TPD Construction and Demolition Waste Processing Plant, and the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC). They also observed door-to-door waste collection processes and the Garbage Transfer Station (GTS).
Indore’s Commissioner, Shivam Verma, provided an overview of the city’s journey to becoming India’s cleanest city for seven consecutive years. He highlighted initiatives such as the elimination of public garbage bins in favor of door-to-door collection monitored via GPS, segregation of waste into six categories, and community programs like the establishment of bag and utensil banks, promotion of zero-waste events, and innovative campaigns like “Nala (drain) Cleaning Drives.”
Commissioner Bhonsle and MLA Rasane praised Indore’s comprehensive approach to cleanliness and expressed intentions to implement similar strategies in Pune. They emphasized the importance of firsthand observation for PMC’s sanitation workers to effectively adopt best practices.
This visit is part of the “Clean, Beautiful, and Developed Kasba” initiative, aiming to transform Pune’s Kasba area into one of India’s cleanest constituencies. The delegation’s study tour reflects PMC’s commitment to enhancing its waste management system by learning from Indore’s successful model.
