Washington/New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy). US President Donald Trump on Sunday signed an order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Donald Trump signed this order when he himself was flying over the Gulf of America in his official aircraft Air Force One. Trump was actually going to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Donald Trump had recently announced to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and now officially signed that order.

Why did Trump change the name of the Gulf?

It is worth noting that the Gulf of Mexico was known by this name for the last 400 years. However, Trump says that it was called the Gulf of Mexico because of the American city of New Mexico. While announcing the change of name of the Gulf, Trump had said that the Gulf should be named after America because America has most of its control. Mexico and Cuba also have a share in it. For America, this Gulf is the center of economic activities, in which activities like fishing, power generation and trade are prominent. Trump had said that the Gulf of Mexico should be known as America’s Gulf because it is our region.

Trump has taken a tough stand against Mexico

Trump may have changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to America’s Gulf, but other countries of the world are not bound by this order. This step of Trump is being considered a part of action against Mexico. Trump has accused Mexico of promoting drug smuggling and illegal immigration in America. Trump had recently ordered to impose tariffs on Canada along with Mexico. However, later he has put a stop on it for a few days.
