Kiev (Team Newsbuddy): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed regret over his recent clash with US President Donald Trump at the White House and admitted that the meeting did not go as it should have. He also said that Ukraine is ready to sign a concrete agreement on rare-earth minerals and security with Washington.
In his first statement after Trump stopped US military aid to Ukraine, Zelensky expressed hope to make things right and emphasized his desire for constructive cooperation and communication in the future. According to media reports, military goods worth one billion dollars to Ukraine are reported to have been stopped. Military goods also include weapons and ammunition. It is being said that the supply of those goods was also stopped which have not yet reached Ukraine but are on the way. It is being said that the effect of stopping American aid will be visible after a few days. Ukraine relies heavily on foreign help to fend off Russia’s full-scale attack that began on February 24, 2022.
The Ukrainian president wrote in a post on X, “Our meeting at the White House in Washington on Friday did not go as it should have. It is regrettable that it happened this way. Now it’s time to fix things. We wish that cooperation and communication in the future be constructive.” In his post, Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to sign a mineral agreement with the US. This agreement was a major topic of the agenda during his Washington visit scheduled for discussion with Trump. However, the deal was put on hold after tense talks between the two leaders and Zelensky left the White House without any solution.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke to the Ukrainian leader on Tuesday and welcomed President Zelensky’s firm commitment to ensuring peace. Zelensky’s post comes at a time when officials in Kiev said they were grateful for the crucial US help in the war and wanted to continue working with Washington. However, the Ukrainian prime minister said the country still wanted security guarantees to be part of any peace deal and would not recognise Russian occupation of any Ukrainian land.
Zelensky said in his post on X, ‘Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a more secure and solid security guarantee. I really hope it will work effectively.’
