Indore: In a significant move to enhance urban greenery and provide state-of-the-art recreational facilities, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has unveiled plans to develop a sprawling public park on 12.880 hectares of government-owned land in the city’s heart. This site, located opposite the First Battalion at Polo Ground and encompassing survey numbers 49, 59, and 60, is set to become a verdant retreat for residents.
The ambitious project envisions the creation of a grand garden, a serene pond, a dedicated yoga center, and well-designed pathways to cater to fitness enthusiasts and leisure seekers alike. A standout feature of the development is the adoption of the Miyawaki afforestation method, renowned for fostering dense, fast-growing forests in urban settings, thereby significantly boosting the area’s green cover.
Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, accompanied by Additional Commissioner Abhay Rajnagaonkar, Assistant Engineer Naresh Jaiswal, and Garden In-Charge Nagendra Singh Bhadoria, conducted a comprehensive site inspection to assess the project’s potential. Commissioner Verma emphasized the strategic importance of this centrally located land and directed officials to expedite the planning process to ensure timely execution.
“This initiative is poised to offer substantial health benefits to our citizens and markedly improve the city’s environmental quality,” stated Commissioner Verma, adding that “the IMC is committed to prioritizing this development, aiming for swift completion so that residents can enjoy these amenities at the earliest.”
This project aligns seamlessly with IMC’s broader vision of augmenting green spaces across Indore. The Indore municipal corporation had previously announced plans to establish 400 ‘Ahilya Van’ urban forests throughout the city, underscoring its dedication to environmental sustainability and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
By integrating such green initiatives, Indore and its civic body aspires to set benchmarks in urban development, ensuring a harmonious blend of modernization and ecological preservation.
