Event held on theme ‘Blue-Green Conservation’ on World Water Day

Indore(Team Newsbuddy):. In honor of ‘World Water Day’, an awareness program was organized by the Department of Botany at Holkar Science College in collaboration with India’s Environmentalist Foundation. This year’s theme was ‘Blue-Green Conservation’, which prominently highlighted the importance of conserving water and green resources. The event was successfully concluded under the guidance of the Head of Department Dr. Sanjida Iqbal. Chief Speaker Environmentalist Suresh Vyas and water conservation expert Rahul Kaithwas were specially invited to share their thoughts.

Dr. Sanjida Iqbal stated in her welcome speech that the conservation of water and plant resources is the need of the hour. She explained that ‘Blue’ (water source) and ‘Green’ (plants) complement each other, and it is essential to maintain their balance.

Chief speaker Suresh Vyas expressed concern about the issues of water pollution and water crisis in his address, stating, “The rampant exploitation and pollution of water resources today is a wake-up call for our future generations. If we do not preserve our blue resources, greenery will also vanish.” He called upon students to actively participate in activities such as reducing plastic use, planting trees, and cleaning water resources. Rahul Kaithwas highlighted water conservation measures through practical examples. He emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting, water recycling, and community participation. He said, “Sustainable development is only possible when every segment of society works together towards water conservation.” The department also organized a “Slogan Writing” competition during the program, in which students received first, second, and third prizes. The slogans were posted by the students in the college campus to raise awareness among people so that the message of the program could reach everyone.

The program’s coordination and outline were prepared by Dr. Shagufta Khan and the stage was conducted by Dr. Pratibha Maravi. At the end, the head of the department, Dr. Sanjeeda Iqbal, expressed gratitude to all guests and participants, stating that the Botany department will always strive for environmental conservation. This involved active participation from the college’s Eco Club unit students under the environmental education program directed by EPCO, Bhopal.
The program concluded with an oath of water conservation, in which everyone pledged to save water and fulfill their responsibilities towards nature.
