Bhopal (Team Newsbuddy): The troubles of Madhya Pradesh government minister Vijay Shah have now started increasing on the legal front as well. Taking suo motu cognizance of the controversial statement given on Colonel Sophia Qureshi, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued instructions to register an FIR within four hours. The division bench has termed this statement as sensitive and objectionable.
What did the High Court say?
The division bench of Justice Atul Shridharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla took suo motu cognizance of this statement and registered it as a hearing petition and ordered to register a case against Minister Vijay Shah under sections 196 and 197 of the BNS. The court has directed the DGP of the state to register an FIR and submit a report by 6 pm. The next hearing has been fixed at 10:30 am on Thursday.
What was the controversial statement?
During the Halma program organized in Manpur, Minister Vijay Shah had said about Colonel Sofia Qureshi, “The terrorists who removed the sindoor of our sisters, took off their clothes, and PM Modi sent their own sister to do this to them.”
There was a lot of opposition on both political and social fronts regarding this comment. However, later giving clarification, the minister said that his statement was taken in the wrong context and he also apologized.
Political uproar, sharp attack by Congress
MP Congress President Jeetu Patwari has filed an FIR against Vijay Shah and raised questions on BJP. He said, “Prime Minister Modi salutes the bravery of the army, while his minister is insulting the brave officer of the army. Why is BJP silent till now?” Patwari warned that if the minister is not dismissed within 24 hours, FIRs will be lodged in police stations across the country.
Despite the apology, the uproar is not stopping
Although Vijay Shah has expressed regret over the statement, the controversial language on the issue related to the army and the comment on the female officer has put him in trouble. Now it remains to be seen what stand the state government and BJP take after the FIR is registered after the High Court’s instructions.
By commenting on Colonel Sofia Qureshi, Minister Vijay Shah has landed in political as well as legal trouble. The High Court’s strictness has made it clear that indecent comments on a sensitive subject like the army will not be tolerated.
