Chipko movement against felling of 8000 trees gets good response

Bhopal (Team Newsbuddy): Taking initiative to save the environment, various social activists gathered at Kakara Farm House on Ayodhya By-Pass to oppose felling of 8000 tree for the widening of 16 km road here. Nearly 500 people took oath to save the felling of trees under the campaign named ‘Chipko Movement’.

According to well known social activist Dr Rachana David, the campaign focuses on state government callous attitude towards the environment balance . The felling of 8000 trees for widening of 16 km road has led to environment dis-balance in and around the state capital. Despite regular negotiations with the state authorities to stop the felling of trees for the road widening project,it seems to have fallen into deaf ears, Rachana said.

She further added that to oppose state government stance on the road widening project, members from various social organizations led by well known environmentalists launched the campaign entitled ‘Chipko’. Under the campaign over 500 members gathered at Kakara Farm House (Ayodhya by-pass) and planted 8000 saplings . Beside this people stick to the trees and tied threads along with took the oath to save environment.

Meanwhile present during the occasion were environmentalist Karuna Raghuvanshi, Labor Leader Deepak Gupta, Former Minister Deepak Joshi, Umashankar Tiwari, Dr. Rajiv Jain, Sudhir Gupta, Kalra Tiwari, Rafat Siddiqui, Rekha Choukse, Payaj Joshi, Nitin Saxena, Sunil Dubey, Saifuddin, and environment lovers Suyesh Kulshrestha and Sunil Ovakar .
