Indore(Team Newsbuddy): In a significant push to transform India’s agricultural landscape, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will kickstart a series of crop-specific and state-wise initiatives with a high-level meeting focused on soybean production in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Hosted at the National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the summit will bring together agriculture ministers from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, alongside senior officials from major soybean-producing states, progressive farmers, and representatives from key institutions. This collaborative effort aims to chart a roadmap for boosting soybean output and strengthening India’s edible oil sector.
The meeting will feature an in-depth presentation on the ‘National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds,’ followed by comprehensive discussions on soybean’s historical evolution, current challenges, and innovative strategies to enhance productivity and farmer incomes.
Chouhan will hold extensive consultations with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), soy food and edible oil industries, seed producers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), state and central agriculture department officials, vice-chancellors and research directors of state agricultural universities, and directors of ICAR’s Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR) and Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE).
This initiative builds on the momentum of the recently concluded 15-day ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,’ a campaign designed to bridge the ‘Lab to Land’ gap by equipping farmers with cutting-edge knowledge and practices. Inspired by the campaign’s success, the Union Minister has prioritised focused meetings on major crops, with similar state-specific discussions planned for pulses, oilseeds, cotton, sugarcane, and other vital crops to drive sustainable agricultural growth in the near future, according to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture.
