2 min read

Indore(Team Newsbuddy): Indore, India’s cleanest city, has taken a monumental leap toward becoming the nation’s first fully digital-addressed city with the launch of the ‘Digital Plate Project’ in the Sudama Nagar locality of the city here on Sunday. Spearheaded by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, this pioneering “One Home, One Digital ID” initiative will assign a unique GPS-based Digital Address Code (DAC) to every household, setting a global benchmark for urban innovation and smart governance.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, speaking at the launch, described the project as a transformative milestone: “Sudama Nagar is becoming the cornerstone of Digital Indore. Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma emphasized the project’s significance: “This is a historic initiative that makes civic services transparent, accessible, and technology-driven. Citizen participation is the key to its success.”

‘One Home, One Digital ID’: What It Means for Indore?

The “One Home, One Digital ID” concept will assign each property a unique Digital Address Code (DAC), revolutionizing how addresses will be managed in Indore. This system will replace the vague and complex traditional addressing methods, which have long hindered efficient service delivery in rapidly growing urban centers like Indore. With over 4.5 lakh households set to receive their digital plates, the project will integrate civic services such as water supply, sanitation, tax collection, and grievance redressal into a single, user-friendly platform, ensuring seamless delivery of services like water, sanitation, and emergency response.
By addressing the challenges of ambiguous addresses, which often delay services like emergency response and last-mile delivery, this initiative will position Indore as a model for digital governance, aligning with India’s Digital India mission, and leveraging technology to enhance ease of living and urban efficiency.

What is the Digital Plate Project?

Under this project, every property in the city will have a Unique Digital Address Code (DAC), ensuring precise identification of the property. It has QR Code-enabled plates. Scanning these plates will provide instant access to property details, taxes, and civic services. It will ensure smart connectivity, integrating services like water, sanitation, taxation, and complaints into one platform.
These digital plates will enable accurate location-based delivery of government services.

Indore: India’s first digital address city

With the launch of digital number plates, Indore has become the first Indian city to implement a comprehensive digital addressing system, which is a landmark in urban innovation. The project, initially piloted in Ward 82, has been built upon a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) and Pataa Navigations, a local startup.
The collaboration with Pataa, supported by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has enabled the creation of a patented digital addressing system that integrates with government services, emergency response systems, and e-KYC for banking. This system will not only simplify navigation but will also reduce economic losses—estimated at ₹75,000 crore annually—caused by India’s unstructured addressing system.
