Maharashtra’s Environment Minister Pankaja Munde has  lauded Indore ‘s remarkable achievements in cleanliness, environmental innovation, and sustainable urban development. She said Indore’s model is not only nationally significant but also globally acceptable — and Maharashtra has much to learn from it.
On a one-day visit to Indore, heaped praise on the city for its exceptional cleanliness, innovative environmental practices, and sustained development efforts.
“Indore’s working model is globally acceptable. Maharashtra can learn a great deal from this city,” she said, impressed by the city’s urban management.
Referring to the upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra, Munde said she plans to send newly elected representatives to study Indore’s model so they can implement similar initiatives in their own cities.
Highlighting Maharashtra’s recent policy moves, she shared that the state government has decided to establish a “River Rejuvenation Authority” and will soon send a proposal to the central government. “Indore is already a leader in this domain, and Maharashtra can gain valuable direction from Indore’s experience,” she remarked.
During her visit, Minister Munde, accompanied by Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, inspected several key facilities including the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Water Treatment Plant, trenching ground, CNG and Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management plants. A detailed presentation was also given by the mayor, explaining the integrated systems in place for managing wet and dry waste.
Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, Water Works In-charge Abhishek Sharma Babloo, and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
Reflecting on Indore’s journey since 2015, when it began its cleanliness mission, Munde said, “The city has worked tirelessly and consistently every day. These efforts are truly inspiring.”
She also praised Indore’s Green Bond Project, calling it a remarkable initiative and attributing its success to “clear political will and strong administrative coordination.”
Declaring Indore as a “Global Standard City”, Pankaja said she hopes cities across Maharashtra will be able to replicate Indore’s model to drive sustainable and impactful urban transformation.
