Naming dispute sparks chaos at IMC Council meeting

Indore(K K Jha). The inaugural council session of the Indore Municipal Corporation at its splendid new auditorium turned into a heated battleground as the opposition Congress unleashed a barrage of criticism against the BJP-led administration. The bone of contention? The nomenclature of the newly erected edifice.
Dubbed “Indore ki Sansad,” the auditorium was christened ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sadan,’ much to the chagrin of the Congress, which vehemently advocated for it to be named after former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan. The Congress representatives, led by their vocal leader, protested with fervor, brandishing placards that emphasized their stance: ‘Women Deserve Respect.’
Amidst the uproar, it came to light that the decision to honor Vajpayee was not a unilateral move but rather a result of a suggestion put forth by none other than Mahajan herself. Present at the meeting, Mahajan gracefully acknowledged the naming choice, highlighting the respect owed to both Vajpayee and herself. She humbly stated, “Vajpayee and I are beyond comparison,” and expressed her reluctance to have any structure named after her during her lifetime, citing her tenure as a minister in Vajpayee’s cabinet as a point of pride.
The episode not only unveiled the intricate dynamics of political maneuvering but also underscored the reverence and humility exhibited by Mahajan, a stalwart figure in Indian politics.
