The three-day-long training, organized by CSIR-CRRI and taking place at Naveen Vishram Bhawan in Civil Lines, targets Assistant Engineers, Sub-Divisional Officers, and Sub Engineers from the Public Works Department. It focuses on road safety audits and related subjects.

Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao stated, “Roads should be of standard quality as well as safe. Strict adherence to all safety measures and provisions should be ensured during the construction of roads. I express hope that this training will be beneficial for the engineers of the department and they will be able to understand the intricacies and practical systems of road safety audit and road safety in a better way.”

It is worth mentioning that due to the rising number of accidents and fatalities in the country, the Supreme Court has established the Committee on Road Safety. In addition to other factors, road construction errors contribute significantly to accidents. The Supreme Court has mandated proper training for agencies responsible for road construction and maintenance to reduce road accidents. In compliance with this directive, the training programme, conducted in collaboration with CRRI, New Delhi, will train a total of 55 Assistant Engineers/Sub-Divisional Officers and 95 Sub Engineers over three days. Field visits will also be organized for the trainee engineers.
