Jhabua : Bhagoria Fair will be the first such fair in the world. Where the youth, dancing to the tunes of music and in an intoxicating mood, set out in search of their life partners and also finalize their relationships. The youth coming to the fair express their love by applying gulal to each other. After that, with the consent of the partner and consent of the family members, they feed each other paan to strengthen the relationship. Girls dressed in colorful clothes and tribal youths hover around them like whirlpools. This scene is common in Bhagauria fair.

A more popular story in this fair is that if a boy and a girl apply pink colored gulal to each other, then it is considered an expression of love or a proposal. In cities, one’s feelings are usually expressed by giving roses, whereas in tribal areas, the ritual of Bhagoria festival is completed by applying pink gulal. The effect of modernity is also visible in the fair.

// This is how it started…
Actually, it is believed that Bhagoria started during the time of Raja Bhoj. At that time two Bhil kings Kasumra and Balun had organized the Bhagor fair in their capital. After this, other Bhil kings also started organizing this fair in their areas. Since then, Bhagoriya festival is being celebrated in tribal dominated areas.
This is how the name Bhagoria came to be…
According to mythology, there is an ancient Shiva temple in village Bhagor of Jhabua district. It is believed that Bhrigurishi had performed penance at this place. It is said that the people of tribal society have been worshiping Bhava i.e. Shiva and Gauri for thousands of years, this is the origin of Bhagoriya.
