UJJAIN : The six-lane highway project linking Indore and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh is gaining momentum as clearance for 3,000 trees and relocation of electricity poles and transformers begins. With the tree-counting phase complete, the MP Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) has sought permissions from district collectors to move forward with the road-widening efforts, designed to reduce travel time between the cities from the current 60-70 minutes to a swift 40-45 minutes.
Stretching 55 kilometers from Indore’s Aurobindo Hospital to Ujjain’s Harifatak Bridge, the upgraded route will provide a seamless journey, crucially timed for completion ahead of the 2028 Simhastha festival. The ambitious Rs 700 crore project aims to meet the needs of both daily commuters and pilgrims, promising enhanced convenience and speed.
According to MPRDC’s General Manager, Rakesh Jain, the trees earmarked for removal were initially planted by MPRDC on its own land. In compliance with environmental norms, extensive replanting efforts will follow the road expansion, ensuring minimal ecological impact.
Simultaneously, work is underway to relocate power infrastructure to avoid any disruption in the construction timeline. This enhanced connectivity is expected to catalyze economic growth in the region, facilitating smoother movement of goods and boosting tourism, especially around large events like Simhastha.
The MPRDC has pledged that the new road will enhance safety standards with its modern design and sturdy structure, offering travelers a safe and comfortable ride. The Indore-Ujjain six-lane highway stands as a pivotal step toward advancing Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure, setting a new standard for connectivity and regional prosperity
