Chief Electoral Officer holds meeting of nodal officers, notifies essential services

Chief Electoral Officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale today informed in the meeting of state level departmental nodal officers of “essential services” notified under the Lok Sabha elections 2024 that 10 services have been notified as “essential services” for the state of Chhattisgarh by the Election Commission of India. These 10 services include Health Department, Electricity Department, Railway Transport, Post and Telegram Department, BSNL, All India Radio, Doordarshan, Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Milk Federation Limited, media persons who will be issued authorization letters with the permission of the Commission and Food Corporation of India.

Chief Electoral Officer Reena Baba Saheb Kangale informed that as per the instructions of the Commission, by notifying it as a compulsory service, such employees of these services, who are unable to go to the polling station on the polling day due to their government duty, are provided the facility of voting through postal ballot only for them. All such employees have to apply before the concerned Assistant Returning Officer within five days of the issue of notification of election on Form 12G. Lok Sabha elections in the state of Chhattisgarh will be held in three phases. The last date for submission of Form 12G for Bastar Lok Sabha constituency is 25 March 2024, the last date in Rajnandgaon, Kanker and Mahasamund is 2 April 2024, the last date in Surguja, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Korba, Bilaspur, Durg and Raipur is 17 April 2024.
The employee applying in Form 12G will have to enter his mobile number, voter ID number and part number and serial number in the voter list correctly in the application. They will also have to attach a photocopy of the voter ID card. To find out the updated part number and serial number of the employee in the electoral roll, the Voter Helpline App can be used in which it can be searched by entering the voter ID card number.
