23% slum children in trap of addiction

Indore: It is a gruesome matter that 23% children between 10 and 17 years of age in the city slums are addicted to chemical drugs. They are so addicted to it that they do not even hesitate to commit crimes. This has been revealed in a survey conducted on children of this age in 550 slums. The surprising thing is that these children are addicted to smelling solutions, whitener, thinner, petrol-diesel as chemical drugs and also to eating boot polish by applying it on bread. Children above 15 years of age were also found addicted to various types of drugs. Children of this age even commit theft and robbery for drugs. During the survey of Eva Welfare Organization, an organization working on drug addiction, in one slum, even a 7-year-old boy was found addicted to eating tobacco.According to Additional Commissioner (Law and Order) Amit, Children lose strength. Due to such drugs, children lose their ability to think and understand. Their chemicals are harmful. They target the liver, kidneys and lungs. They get swollen and also affect the heart and windpipe. Under the influence of drugs, these children do not hesitate to commit crimes like sexual crimes, theft, robbery, assault and stabbing. When we talked to these children that they do not feel scared of committing crimes, their answer was that after getting intoxicated, they get obsessed and do not even know what they are doing. There are no home care centers for these children. The ill effects of drugs are rapidly taking over the children. If the police has taken initiative in this direction, then it is commendable. There is not a single home care center in the city for children who are getting addicted to drugs. There are home care centers to get them away from drugs. By working fast in this direction, after getting them rid of the drug, they will be made aware for studies and brought into the mainstream. Indore: Police will identify children addicted to chemical drugs. If a child has become an addict, he will be kept in a rehab center. After his recovery, he will be made aware about studies. Apart from this, those who provide drugs to children will also be identified.
Children also lose their thinking power and sit exhausted for hours after intoxication. If not treated on time, it can even lead to death, as told by Dr. Sanjay Ahirkar, Child Specialist.
Bharti Mandole, Director Eva Welfare Organization, said, ” there are no home care centers for these children. The ill effects of drug addiction are rapidly taking over the children. There is a need for home care centers to get them away from drug addiction. There is a need to work fast in this direction.”

Investigation was done on this for a month. Two minors from Malharganj area were traced who have become drug addicts. Their treatment has also been started in the rehab center. Both the children told in counseling that the begging women of their slum provide drugs for 20 to 30 rupees. Now an N-Card Committee has been formed at the district level for such children. The chairman will be the collector. Members of Nagar Suraksha, Mohalla Samiti and NGOs will support.
