Ajay Devgan’s film ‘Maidan’ hits screen, gets good response
2 min readMumbai (Team Newsbuddy): Ajay Devgan’s film Maidan, released on Friday, based on Syed Abdul Rahim who was a football coach. The film received good response on the opening day.
Recently, Ajay Devgan said in an interview that he did not know that at one time football had really reached a very high level in our country. That too only because of one person.
Syed Abdul Rahim is the one who changed the condition and direction of the game of football in India in the 50s and 60s. Ajay Devgan said that when he heard this story, he was so impressed by it that he decided that he would definitely convey this story to the audience. Ajay is playing the role of this Syed Abdul Rahim in Maidan.
Syed Abdul Rahim was born on 17 August 1909 in Hyderabad. He was fond of football since childhood. However, his life was very challenging. But fighting all the challenges, Syed Abdul Rahim became the captain of the Indian football team in 1950. Under his captaincy, the Indian football team won gold medals in Asian Games from 1951 to 1962. This was the time when the Indian football team was the strongest football team in Asia. People used to call India the Brazil of Asia in terms of football.
In 1956, the Indian football team reached the semi-finals in the Melbourne Olympics under the leadership of Syed Abdul Rahim. So I cannot say right now how the film will be or not. But I would definitely like to remember Syed Abdul Rahim with respect on this occasion. Also, salute to Ajay Devgan sahab for making a film on the life of this forgotten hero. Syed Abdul Rahim died on 11 June 1963.
