Turmoil in Pakistan cricket, captain suddenly retires

Lahore: The T20 World Cup 2024 is going to start soon. Big news is coming out from Pakistan ahead of the prestigious tournament. Former women’s captain of the team Bismah Maroof has announced retirement from all formats of international cricket.

Before retirement, 32-year-old Maroof was walking away from the cricket field. Actually, in 2020, she had a fitness problem. At the same time, in 2021, she became the mother of a child. Due to which she had to stay away from the cricket field for a long time.

Bismah Maroof came into the public eye when she was on the 2022 World Cup tour with her child. The left-handed female batsman made her ODI debut against India in 2006.

Maruf is the female player who has played the most international matches for Pakistan. She participated in a total of 276 matches for her country. This includes 136 ODIs and 140 T20 International matches.

The female player started her T20 International cricket career in 2009 against Ireland. Maruf has scored 2893 runs in 134 innings of 140 T20 matches at an average of 27.6. During this, 12 half-centuries have come off her bat. Here her personal best batting performance is 70 not out.

On the other hand, if we talk about her ODI career, she managed to play a total of 136 matches for Pakistan. Meanwhile, 3369 runs came off her bat in 132 innings at an average of 29.6. She has 21 half-centuries to her name in the ODI format.

Maruf was also brilliant in bowling. She managed to take 36 wickets for her team in 63 T20 innings at an average of 22.77. Whereas in 70 ODI innings, she got 44 wickets at an average of 26.68.
