Significant achievement of SECR towards Automatic Signaling System
3 min readRaipur(Team Newsbuddy): South East Central Railway is committed to provide better, convenient, safe and comfortable travel experience to the passengers. Modern and advanced technology is being adopted to increase capacity along with providing better services to the passengers. As an important step in the field of automatic signaling system, South East Central Railway has commissioned the highest number of 136.25 km automatic signaling system in Indian Railways this year. Thus, till now a total of 460 km section of South East Central Railway has been equipped with automatic signaling system.
In the Automatic Block Signaling System, signals are installed at a fixed distance between two stations. In the new system, signals have been installed about one to one and a half kilometers ahead of the advance starter signal of the station yard. As a result, trains keep moving behind each other with the help of signals. If due to any reason there is a technical fault in the signal ahead, then the trains running behind also get the information and the trains will stop at the place where they are. This helps in running more trains and regulates traffic at major junction stations. Where earlier only one train could run between two stations, now through auto signalling 4, 5 or 6 trains can be run in each section depending upon the distance between two stations.
In South East Central Railway, the work of auto signaling system in Bilha to Jairamnagar (30 km), Kalamna to Durg (259 km), Bilaspur to Ghutku (16 km), Champa to Urga (28 km) railway line was completed in the last financial years. During the last financial year 2023-24, the work of 136.25 km auto signaling system has been completed, which includes Jairam Nagar-Akaltara (34 km), Urga-Gevra Road (16.25 km), Durg-Kumhari (54 km), Dhanoli-Gudma (18 km), Salwa-Kamthi (11 km), and Bilaspur Card Cabin-Uslapur (03 km) railway line. Thus, at present 460 km section of South East Central Railway is equipped with automatic signal system. With the implementation of the Automatic Block Signal System, more than one train can run on the same route in a block section. This has increased the speed as well as the number of trains on the railway lines. At the same time, one does not have to wait for the train running ahead to reach the next station to pass a standing train anywhere. The green signal is received as soon as the train moves forward from the station yard, that is, in a block section, one train runs easily behind the other. Along with this, information about the location of trains is also available.
The role of signaling system is very important in protected train operation. Upgradation and replacement of equipment used in railways is a continuous process, which is done on the basis of availability of resources and operational requirements as per the requirements. From time to time, the signaling system is modernized with the aim of improving safety in train operations and increasing line capacity, in this series, work has been started towards increasing the speed of trains and strengthening the signal system for safe travel. In this system, the capacity of the railway line is increasing with the current infrastructure.
