Indian team expresses displeasure over New York pitches

2 min read

New York/New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): Not a single high scoring match has been played in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far. In this tournament being co-hosted by West Indies and America, fans are also not coming in the same way as the ODI World Cup was in 2023. The concern is especially about the matches being held in America. The pitch of Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York has proved to be scary so far. Two matches have been played here and not even 100 runs could be scored in both.

In such a situation, concerns have increased for the ICC. Not only this, after the match against Ireland on Wednesday, the Indian team has expressed displeasure over the New York pitch. India has to play a match against Pakistan on June 9 in the same ground. If the pitch behaves in the same way, then many players can get injured in that match. However, the ICC has instructed officials to keep an eye on the behaviour of the pitch.

According to sources, despite the growing problems with pitches in New York, the ICC has no plans to shift the remaining matches out of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Drop-in pitches have been used in New York, but they could not be tested before the important tournament. This pitch is more suitable for bowlers. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 77 runs by South Africa. Since then, the New York pitch has come under scrutiny. After this, India bowled out Ireland for 96 runs. Many veterans including former cricketers have criticized this ground and have asked the ICC not to hold matches there. During the India-Ireland match on Wednesday, India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant were also injured due to unlimited bounce. Rohit even retired hurt while batting and left the field.
