Sheinbaum wins presidential election in Mexico

Mexico City (Team Newsbuddy): Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate of the ruling party in Mexico, has won the presidential election. According to Mexico’s Election Commission, the counting of votes for the general elections held on June 2 has been completed and the victory of ruling party candidate Claudia Sheinbaum in the presidential election has been confirmed.

The National Electoral Institute held an extraordinary session to announce that Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena)-led coalition, won with 59.75 percent of the vote. Claudia Edith Suarez, head of the INE’s Executive Secretariat Office, said the next step is for the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) to conduct a final count and endorse the result.

INE reported that Xochitl Galvez of the opposition coalition Fuerza y ​​Corazon por México received 27.45 percent of the vote, while a third candidate, Jorge Alvarez of the Citizens Movement party, received 10.32 percent. INE reported that 60,115,184 registered voters cast their votes for a turnout of 61.04 percent. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s term ends at the end of September.
