Ujjain police bust major T-20 cricket world cup betting racket, seize  Rs 15 Crore

Ujjain (Team Newsbuddy) : In a significant crackdown, the Ujjain police claimed to have dismantled a major betting racket linked to the T-20 Cricket World Cup, seizing nearly Rs 15 crore. The operation led to the recovery of currencies from seven nations, including the British pound, US dollar, and UAE dirham.

Despite the main accused, Piyush Chopra from Ujjain, managing to escape, the police apprehended nine members of the gang, originating from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The seizure included Rs 14.58 crore in cash, a substantial amount of foreign currencies, and numerous electronic gadgets. A lookout notice has been issued for Piyush Chopra.

Addressing a crowded press conference, IG Santosh Kumar Singh revealed that the betting operation was being conducted at Piyush Chopra’s residence in Dreams Colony, under the jurisdiction of Neelganga police station. The raid took place on Thursday night during the T-20 World Cricket match between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, during which the suspects were actively involved in betting activities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jasprit Singh (30), resident of Ludhiana, Rohit Singh (26), resident of Neemuch, Gurpreet Singh (36), resident of Ludhiana, Mayur Jain (30), resident of Neemuch,  Satprit Singh (34), resident of Ludhiana, Akash Masihi (26), resident of Neemuch, Chetan Negi (37), resident of Ludhiana, Harish Teli (36), resident of Nimbaheda, Rajasthan Gaurav Jain (26), resident of Neemuch,kkk respectively. 
The police have intensified their search for Piyush Chopra and are continuing their investigation into the betting racket.
