1 min readHyderabad (Team Newsbuddy): A police sub-inspector in Telangana committed suicide by consuming pesticide. He consumed pesticide about a week ago after alleged harassment at the workplace. He died in the hospital on Sunday. Sriramula Srinivas (38) was working as a sub-inspector at the Aswarapete police station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Sub-inspector Sriramula Srinivas, fed up with the harassment of his senior officer and four colleagues, consumed pesticide in Mehboobabad on June 30. He died during treatment in the early hours at a private hospital in Hyderabad. The sub-inspector, a resident of Warangal district, is survived by his wife, seven-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.
The magistrate had recorded the statement of the Dalit police officer, in which he gave information about the reasons for attempting suicide. Based on a complaint by Srinivas’ wife Krishnaveni, the police have registered a case against Circle Inspector (CI) Jithender Reddy, constables Sanyasi Naidu, Subhani, Shekhar and Shiva Nagaraju under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The family alleged that the CI and four others were trying to project them as corrupt officers and got news reports published against them in newspapers. Two charge memos were also reportedly issued against them.
