Hamas ready for ceasefire without conditions

2 min read

Jerusalem/New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): Hamas and Israel have been fighting a war for nine months. Israel’s resolve to eliminate Hamas is taking a toll on the people of the Gaza Strip. There is growing resentment across the country over the humanitarian conditions created in Gaza. Meanwhile, Hamas’s stance seems to be softening somewhat. It is ready to reconsider its insistence on constantly pressuring Israel for a permanent ceasefire before reaching any agreement.

This statement is an important moment in the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. Hamas has been constantly making many demands. However, now it is ready to start talks on a temporary ceasefire without any conditions.

Talks may last for six weeks

A senior Hamas official said the revised approach would allow talks on a permanent ceasefire to continue during the initial phase of the agreement, which is expected to last six weeks. Importantly, the mediators will ensure the implementation of the temporary ceasefire, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and monitor the withdrawal of Israeli troops while the talks continue.

The draft states that before the 16th day, negotiations will begin between the two sides to finalize the terms of the implementation of the second phase of this agreement. These talks should be completed before the end of the fifth week of the first phase.

Meetings being held in Qatar

This change in Hamas’s stance has come amid the resumption of talks between Israel and Hamas representatives in Qatar. Let us tell you, these talks resumed after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allowed detailed discussions for the purpose of mediating a comprehensive agreement.
