Bhilai Steel Plant receives Greentech Award

Bhilai (Team Newsbuddy): Bhilai Steel Plant was awarded the winner’s award for outstanding achievements in the ‘Innovative Waste Management Technology’ category of ‘Greentech PCWR Awards 2024’. The award, given by Greentech Foundation, was received by Assistant General Manager, Environmental Management Department Anuradha Bitta and Senior Manager, Blast Furnace Shraddha Singh on behalf of Bhilai Steel Plant at an award ceremony held in Guwahati, Assam on July 27.

IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Forests Government of Assam Ravi Shankar, Chairman, Pollution Control Board Assam Arup Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Goa Pollution Control Board Mahesh Paltil, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board Dr. Asarsh Pal Vig and Member Secretary, Pollution Control Board Assam Shantanu Kumar Dutta presented the Greentech PCWR Awards 2024.

Bhilai Steel Plant has been awarded the winner in the Innovative Waste Management Technology category for several initiatives taken in the field of waste management in recent times. This includes conversion of BOF slag into paver blocks for which SAIL Green Tiles Plant (SGTP) was inaugurated within the Plant in June 2023.

The paver blocks produced at SGTP are being extensively used inside the Plant and in township areas. Another important project set up by the Plant is PCB waste disposal facility which has been commissioned from October 2023 and till date more than 90 tonnes of hazardous waste oil from old transformers has been disposed of in an eco-friendly manner through this facility.

Bhilai Steel Plant has also successfully tested the replacement of river sand with LD-slag used as runner material in blast furnace runners. In another initiative in the field of waste management, plastic granules produced from plastic segregated from municipal solid waste have been successfully tested for co-processing in a coke oven.
