1 min readIndore(Team Newsbuddy) : BJP candidate Jitendra Rathore emerged victorious in the by-election for Ward 83 of the Indore Municipal Corporation, defeating Congress candidate Vikas Joshi by a significant margin of 4,255 votes. The by-election was necessitated following the death of former BJP councillor Kamal Laddha.
Deputy District Election Officer Rajendra Raghuvanshi reported that the counting of votes began at 9 a.m. on Friday at Nehru Stadium, where 11 tables were arranged for the process, with an additional four tables in reserve. The election process saw elaborate security and logistical arrangements to ensure smooth operations.
Rathore garnered a total of 6,490 votes, while Joshi secured 2,235 votes. The turnout was notably low, with only 8,900 voters—41.32% of the 21,700 registered voters—casting their ballots in Wednesday’s election.
In line with the collector’s directives, schools, colleges, Anganwadis, and businesses in the ward were closed on election day, granting employees and residents the opportunity to vote.
Six candidates were in the running for the seat, but the contest was primarily between BJP’s Rathore and Congress’s Joshi.
