Tanya Hemant wins Bendigo International Challenge title

Hariharan ,Ruben Kumar runners-up in men’s doubles

Mumbai (Team Newsbuddy): Second-ranked Indian Tanya Hemant won the women’s singles title at the Yonex Bendigo International Challenge badminton event. First-ranked Indian A Hariharan and R Ruben Kumar were runners-up in men’s doubles in Bendigo, Australia.

World number 71 Tanya Hemant defeated world number 98, sixth-ranked Tung Siaoyu Tong of Taipei 21-17, 21-17 in 41 minutes in the women’s singles final.

21-year-old Tanya has won her third international senior title. Tanya won the India International Challenge in 2022 and the Iran Fajr International Challenge in 2023 by defeating Indian players Rutvika Shivani and Tasnim Mir respectively in the final. This year Tanya has played her second international final. In the Polish Open International Challenge event, Tanya lost to compatriot Anupama Upadhyay in the final. 15-21, 21-11, 10-21,

In the men’s doubles final, fifth seeded Chen Cheng Kuan and Po Li-Wei of Taipei created an upset by defeating world number 66 A Hariharan and R Ruben Kumar 21-17, 21-14 in 33 minutes. World number 112, ninth seeded Shogo Ogawa of Japan defeated compatriot world number 183 Keisuke Fujiwara 21-18, 21-9.
