ED raids on cricket bookies’ hideouts in Indore-Ujjain, Rs 8 crore frozen
2 min readUjjain(Team Newsbuddy): ED team raided cricket bookies’ hideouts in Indore and Ujjain. This action was taken on the information of money laundering. Website and hawala were being used for betting transactions. ED froze Rs 8 crore and seized several digital devices.
On 14 June 2024, Ujjain police took action and arrested nine people playing cricket betting. During that time Rs 14.58 crore in cash was recovered. 41 mobiles, 19 laptops, national and international mobile SIMs, foreign currency were also seized. The main accused in this was Piyush Chopra.
According to the police, Piyush Chopra was running betting at his house on Indore Road for a long time. He had called young men skilled in betting from Ludhiana, Punjab and other cities to Ujjain by paying them good money. Here the whole game was being run by providing high-tech resources.
Cricket betting through website
Cricket betting was conducted through website. Local police had informed ED and other central investigation agencies about this entire operation.
According to ED, involvement of persons named Abhay Chopra and Sanjay Agarwal has also come to light in cricket betting and related transactions. Investigation is also being done on other points.
Use of Hawala and software
According to ED, a website named Londonx9 was operated for cricket betting. Bets were placed through this. Transfer of betting amount was done through Hawala. Bookies were also using a software named Horse to keep track of betting transactions and calculation of win-loss. The role of Abhay Chopra and Sanjay Agarwal is also being revealed in this online black market and software tracking.
Rs. 8 crore frozen
ED team has conducted raids at five locations in Indore, Ujjain. Raids were also conducted in Ludhiana city of Punjab. During this, the ED team has seized Rs 31 lakh in cash, so
me documents and some digital devices.
