PIEMR celebrates National Mathematics Day, honours legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan

Indore (Team Newsbuddy): Prestige Institute of Engineering, Management, and Research (PIEMR) celebrated National Mathematics Day with great enthusiasm to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Organized by the Department of Applied Science and Humanities in collaboration with the Innovation Cell, the event, themed “Creativity and Innovation,” aimed to inspire students to explore the transformative power and elegance of mathematics.
The two-day celebration, supported by NCSTC (DST), the Government of India, and the MP Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal, featured engaging activities including model-making, poster creation, debates, and an expert lecture. These initiatives encouraged students to move beyond traditional classroom learning and appreciate mathematics as a versatile tool for creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.
The competitions were a testament to the students’ ingenuity and enthusiasm. In the Model Making Competition, first-year students Himani Thakre and Kanishka Sharma, along with second-year participants Rashi Bhavsar, Ashutosh Jaiswal, Tarandeep Singh, and Neha Sharma, delivered outstanding performances to secure top honors. In the poster-making competition, first-year students Muskan Chadar and Drishti Gupta showcased their artistic flair with creative interpretations of the event’s theme. The Debate Competition saw second-year students Ashwin Soni, Prashant Singh, Payaswini Mudgal, Sidhi Khatri, and Ayushi Sharma emerge as winners with their compelling arguments on mathematics’ role in technological advancement and societal progress.
A major highlight of the event was an insightful lecture by Dr. Ekta Agrawal, an Associate Professor at IIM Indore. She captivated the audience with her perspective on how mathematical innovations profoundly influence fields like engineering, technology, and the arts. Her address resonated deeply with students, broadening their understanding of mathematics’s interdisciplinary impact.
Dr. Manojkumar Deshpande, Senior Director of PIEMR, commended the students and faculty for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. He praised the leadership of Dr. Hemant Sharma, Head of the ASH Department, and Dr. Umashankar Prasad, Vice President of the Innovation Cell, for ensuring the event’s success.
