Indore (Team Newsbuddy): . The 20th Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar National Bridge Competition is being organized at Yashwant Club from 07 January to 12 January 2025. This is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country, held under the joint aegis of Indore Contract Bridge Association, Yashwant Club and Holkar Bridge Trust under the technical guidance of the Indian Bridge Federation.
Competition Secretary Mr. Anil Vijayvargiya told that in this competition, Holkar Trophy Players Bridge Competition, Premswaroop Kalani Trophy Duplicate Team Competition, S.M. Jhanwar Trophy, J.S. Anand Trophy, Justice R.K. Vijayvargiya Trophy along with V.K. Aggarwal Trophy will be held. This competition has an important place in the selection of national teams because the players who are successful here are given high priority in the selection of the national team.
Competition Organizing Committee President Mrs. Padma Kalani said that the Chief Tournament Director of this competition will be Pranav Bhattacharya (Ranju). A total of 70 teams from the country are participating in the competition in which about three hundred and fifty players will participate. Holkar Trust has been formed for the smooth conduct of this competition, whose president is Satish Malhotra. He and Maharani Usha Raje and Saurabh Kalani have special cooperation in organizing the competition.
Pankaj Agarwal told that this time matches of V.K. Agarwal Trophy will also be played. Mixed players’ matches will be held under this trophy on 7th and 8th January. A total prize money of Rs. 3 lakh has been kept in it. Also, the winning pair will be awarded the V.K. Agarwal Trophy. V.K. Agarwal and his wife used to play bridge together for 40 years. After his death last year, his family has resolved to start this trophy.
Six rounds of Swiss League of Kalani Trophy will be played on 9th January from 10 AM. On the basis of league, top 15 and one local team will qualify for the knockout. On the other hand, the elimination round matches of Holkar Pair Bridge competition will start on 10th and 11th January in the afternoon. On the basis of elimination, a total of 28 pairs will play the final round on 12th January. The remaining pairs who do not reach the final round will participate in JS Anand Trophy competition.
All the major teams and players of the country are coming to Indore to participate in this competition, which includes teams like Formidables, Poddar Housing, Dhampur Sugar Mill, Texan Aces etc. Along with this, players of Khargone’s Raibidpura team are also participating in this competition. Many of these players have shown their talent in international competitions. The winner of Kalani Trophy will be awarded a sum of Rs 3 lakh 20 thousand and an attractive trophy, while the winning pair of Holkar Pair Bridge competition will be given a sum of Rs 1 lakh 75 thousand. A total prize money of Rs 20 lakh will be distributed in the competition.
Organising committee secretary Anil Vijayvargiya said that Yashwant Club chairman Tony Sachdeva, secretary Sanjay Gorani and all the executive members have extended their full support for this competition. Around 100 tables are being set up in the smash hall, local players are also very excited about this competition. This competition will be broadcasted worldwide via webcast from the bridgebaseonline.com website and the world’s leading players will also comment on it.
