Ceasefire between Israel-Hamas
3 min readTel Aviv (Team Newsbuddy): After 15 months of continuous fighting, a ceasefire has finally been declared between Israel and Hamas. America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has first officially announced it. After the announcement of the ceasefire, there is an atmosphere of happiness in both Gaza and Israel. The Prime Minister of Qatar said that the ceasefire agreement will come into effect from January 19. Let’s know everything related to the ceasefire.
According to Al Jazeera, the ceasefire will be implemented in 3 phases. Under this, Israel will stop the attack on the Gaza Strip and release the prisoners lodged in its jails. In return, Hamas will also release the people held hostage after the October 7 attack.
In the first phase, 33 hostages will be released by Hamas. During the first phase itself, important points will be discussed regarding the second and third phases. According to the report, in the first phase, Hamas will release 33 humanitarian hostages. These will include children, women, female soldiers, elderly and sick people.
Israel believes that most of the 33 people are alive, but some are feared dead. In fact, Hamas had taken 251 people hostage. Most of them have been killed. It is estimated that Hamas has 94 hostages, of which only 60 are alive.
Israel is believed to have agreed to release 1,000 Palestinian prisoners. About 200 of these are those who have been imprisoned for about 15 years. No person involved in the October 7 attack will be released.
150-200 people involved in serious crimes will also be released, but they will not be allowed to return to the West Bank. Israel will also not return the body of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The first phase will last for 6 weeks. This will include the release of hostages and prisoners, partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and access of humanitarian material.
The Israeli army will not go within 700 meters of the Gaza border. However, this does not include the Netzarim corridor dividing Gaza into two parts. 600 trucks of aid material will be sent to Gaza every day. The Israeli army will open the Rafah border with Egypt after 7 days.

The terms of the second phase will be negotiated during the first phase itself. US President Joe Biden has said that the ceasefire will remain in force even if the second and third phase talks continue after the first phase.
In the second phase, Hamas will release all live hostages and Israel will release Palestinian prisoners. Israel will begin its full withdrawal from Gaza, but it seems very difficult to reach an agreement on this.
The details of the third phase are still unclear. If the conditions of the second phase are met, the bodies of the remaining hostages will be handed over in the third phase. In return, a 3 to 5 year reconstruction plan for Gaza will be prepared, which will be monitored by the international community.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that it is envisaged to invite ‘international partners’ to establish reconstruction and interim governing authority.
No one has the answer to this question yet. Before the announcement of the agreement, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa had said that the Palestinian Authority has the right to govern Gaza. However, Israel does not want this at all.
Israel wants to continue to control Gaza even after the war is over. Israel is discussing a plan for a temporary administration for Gaza with the US and Qatar.
