Indian women’s under-19 team wins T20 World Cup title for second time

Kuala Lumpur/New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy). The Indian women’s under-19 cricket team has won the T20 World Cup title for the second consecutive time. This tournament started in 2023 and the Indian team won in the very first edition. Then the captain of Team India was Shefali Verma. Now after two years, in the second edition of the tournament, the Indian team has become the champion for the second consecutive time under the captaincy of Nikki Prasad.

Winning the toss and batting first, South Africa’s innings was reduced to 82 runs in 20 overs. In response, Team India achieved the target by losing one wicket in 11.2 overs. This is the second time after 2023 that an ICC trophy has come home, including India’s senior and junior women’s teams. Gongadi Trisha performed all-round in the final. Apart from taking three wickets, she also scored an unbeaten 44 runs.

South Africa off to bad start
Indian bowlers wreaked havoc in the final. Indian bowlers bowled out South Africa for 82 runs in 20 overs. In the match played at Beumas Oval Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, South Africa captain Reneke won the toss and decided to bat first. However, her decision proved wrong. The team had a bad start. South African team got the first blow in the form of Simone Lawrence in the second over. She was clean bowled by Parunika Sisodia. Simone could not open the account. After this, in the fourth over, Shabnam Shakeel got Gemma Botha caught by Kamalini. Gemma scored 16 runs in 14 balls with the help of three fours. South Africa got the third blow on the score of 20 in the fifth over. Ayushi Shukla bowled Diyara Ramlakan. She could score three runs.

After this, Kayla Reneke and Karabo Meso shared a 20-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This partnership was broken by Gongadi Trisha. She got Reneke caught by Parunika. Reneke could score seven runs in 21 balls. After this, Ayushi Shukla bowled Meso. She could score 10 runs in 26 balls. Gongadi Trisha then dismissed Mieke van Voorst and Seshani Naidu as well. Mieke could score 23 runs in 18 balls, while Seshani could not open her account. Vaishnavi Sharma sent Faye Crowling (15) and Monalisa Legodi (0) to the pavilion. Parunika dismissed Ashley van Wyk on the last ball of the innings. Ashley could not open her account either. You can guess about the dominance of Indian bowlers from the fact that four players of South African team could not open their account. Gongadi took the maximum of three wickets from India. At the same time, Parunika Sisodia, Ayushi Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma got two wickets each. Shabnam Shakeel got one wicket.

Run flows out of Gongadi’s bat again

After this, Gongadi Trisha and Kamalini gave a steady start to Team India. Both added 36 runs in 30 balls for the first wicket. This partnership was broken by South African captain Reneke. He got Kamalini caught by Simone. Kamalini could score only eight runs. After this, Gongadi along with Sanika Chalke gave Team India a spectacular victory by nine wickets. Gongadi remained unbeaten after scoring 44 runs with the help of eight fours in 33 balls and Sanika remained unbeaten after scoring 26 runs
with the help of four fours in 22 balls.
