Electoral defeat: Congress Legislature Party holds meeting

2 min read

Raipur (Team Newsbuddy). The elections held in the state were reviewed in the meeting of Congress Legislature Party held at the residence of Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant on Monday. It was decided in this meeting that the issues related to the general public will be raised aggressively during the assembly session.

Different topics were being discussed in the meeting, during this time senior leader and former minister Mohammad Akbar raised a big issue. According to sources present in the meeting, Mohammad Akbar said that in the local elections, every leader of the party had distributed tickets in their respective areas. He told that all the leaders including him had presented the list of candidates of their area before the state president Deepak Baij and the president had approved all those names without any amendment.

Akbar clarified that all the leaders fielded their own candidates in the election and if there is defeat, then it is a collective defeat. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to blame it on state president Deepak Baij alone.

MLAs’ consent
When former minister Akbar put forth his point on this issue, there was silence in the legislative party for some time. Later, some MLAs agreed with the argument that if the Congress has faced defeat in the entire state including the capital, then it would not be right to hold the state president alone responsible for it, rather it becomes the collective responsibility of the entire party.

It is being told that most of the leaders including Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant, Congress National General Secretary and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and senior leader TS Singhdev also supported Mohammad Akbar’s opinion. He admitted that all the leaders have participated in the ticket distribution, so everyone should take responsibility for the defeat.

Questions being raised on Deepak Baij
It is worth noting that there was an atmosphere of discontent against the state president Deepak Baij for the last few months, which has been further aggravated by the results of the urban body elections. There were talks in the inner circles of the party to hold Baij responsible for the defeat. But after this meeting it became clear that the party leaders had taken decisions collectively, so the responsibility for the defeat should also be taken collectively.

This meeting indicates that efforts are being made to maintain internal unity in the Congress and strengthen the upcoming political strategy.
