Walkathon, Skit, Poster Exhibition, and Ramp Walk highlight the life-saving message of organ donation
Bhilai (Team Newsbuddy): In observance of National Organ Donation Day 2025, the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital & Research Centre (JLNH & RC) of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) organised a series of awareness programmes under the banner of ‘Angdaan Mahotsav–2025’. These initiatives are part of the ongoing global campaign associated with World Organ Donation Day, aimed at promoting public awareness and eliminating misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
As part of the campaign, an Organ Donation Awareness Walkathon was conducted on August 8 by the Burn Unit of JLNH & RC. The walkathon was flagged off by Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra, Director In-Charge (BSP), from the OPD Block of the hospital. The procession, comprising doctors and hospital staff, advanced with banners, posters, and placards displaying awareness messages, while the ‘Organ Donation Messenger Vehicle’ led the way, broadcasting the Organ Donation Anthem and drawing public attention to the cause.
Following the walkathon, Dr. Ravindranath M. inaugurated a poster exhibition featuring selected entries focused on the theme of organ donation. In his inaugural address, Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra appreciated the hospital’s efforts, especially the establishment of Chhattisgarh’s first Skin Bank at JLNH & RC, and underscored the importance of this humanitarian cause. He stated that organ donation is the highest form of giving and that countless individuals are waiting for life-saving organs, but their availability remains limited. He expressed hope that such initiatives would encourage more individuals to come forward and register as donors.
Dr. Ravindranath M. appealed to the public to register themselves as organ donors and to inform their families about their decision. He emphasized that the day is meant to honour the selfless contributions of organ donors and their families, adding that most organ donations occur posthumously and that giving life to someone else even after death is a noble act of unmatched value.
A skit highlighting the significance and emotional impact of organ donation was performed by members of the Burn Unit along with skin bank beneficiaries and organ donors. The skit was followed by an Awareness Ramp Walk, where organ donors and recipients came forward to share their stories, express gratitude, and encourage broader participation in the organ donation movement.
The programme was anchored by Dr. Uday Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (Medical & Health Services), and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Anirudh Mene, Additional Chief Medical Officer (Medical & Health Services) and Head of the Burn Unit. The Burn Unit team played a vital role in ensuring the smooth and impactful execution of the event.
The ongoing campaign will also include a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session based on the 2025 theme of National Organ Donation Day, “Answering the Call”. This academic initiative is intended to enhance the involvement of medical professionals in this life-saving mission and further promote awareness through the healthcare community
