Former MP cadre cop Akhilesh Jha appointed honorary director at International Police Academy, Brussels

Indore (Team Newsbuddy): Former senior police officer of Madhya Pradesh, Akhilesh Jha, has been appointed as the Honorary Director of India Affairs at the International Police Academy (UNIPOL), headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. The prestigious international organization—recognized globally for its work in police training, capacity building, and security collaboration—has conferred this position on Jha in recognition of his exceptional contributions to policing, internal security, and community service.
As Honorary Director, Jha will represent UNIPOL’s mission and objectives in India and on global platforms, leveraging his 35 years of distinguished experience to strengthen the academy’s training programs, research initiatives, and international partnerships.
UNIPOL is a renowned academic and training institution that provides advanced education to police, military, and security personnel worldwide, focusing on innovative strategies and global cooperation to tackle modern challenges such as cybercrime, terrorism, human trafficking, and organized crime.
Honours & Accolades
Jha’s police career has been marked by outstanding achievements and honors. In 1989, he was awarded the Governor’s Gold Medal for being the Best Trainee Officer among 33 Deputy Superintendents of Police. In 2013, he received the President’s Meritorious Service Medal for excellence in policing. He was also adjudged the Best Superintendent of Police (SP) among 51 SPs in Madhya Pradesh.
From 1990 to 1993, Mr. Jha served in the Naxal-affected Bastar region (Chhattisgarh) and was honored with the Internal Security Medal by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for his exemplary work in challenging conditions.
Throughout his illustrious career, Jha held several key positions across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He began his service as SDOP, Bijapur, and later served as SDOP, Jhabua; CSP, Katni, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Raipur; Additional SP, Seoni, Bhind, and Ratlam; AIG (Training) at Police Headquarters (PHQ); SP, CID (AJK); SP, Narcotics; SP (Headquarters), Indore; and Commandant, RAPTC, Indore and Dhar. He retired on July 31, 2020, while serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), RAPTC.
Author and Thought Leader
A native of Madhubani district, Bihar, and currently residing in Indore, Jha is also an accomplished author and thinker. He has written three books, including the widely appreciated “Policing in India: Trials and Tribulations”, which presents an insightful and analytical account of his experiences, highlighting the challenges and reforms needed in the Indian policing system.
The police fraternity of Indore and Madhya Pradesh has warmly congratulated Jha on his appointment, calling it a moment of pride for the state’s law enforcement community.
