Indore Family Court breaks ground: Orders wife to provide monthly support to estranged husband
2 min readIndore (Team Newsbuddy) : In a groundbreaking decision, the Family Court in Indore has ruled in favor of a husband, mandating his wife to provide Rs 5,000 per month for maintenance. The verdict comes after a case was filed by the husband in December 2023, with the judgment delivered in his favor just two months later, in February 2024.
According to Aman’s lawyer, Manish Jharaula, the 23-year-old resident of Ujjain entered into a relationship with 22-year-old Nandini in 2020, following a mutual acquaintance. Despite Aman’s reluctance to marry, Nandini coerced him by threatening self-harm. Succumbing to the pressure, they tied the knot in July 2021 at Arya Samaj Mandir and commenced living in Indore on rented premises.
Post-marriage, Aman endured relentless harassment from Nandini, whose behavior remained unchanged despite numerous attempts at reconciliation. Eventually, in September, just two months after their union, Aman sought refuge with his parents, citing unbearable circumstances.
Aman, who had to forgo his college education due to Nandini’s disruptions, expressed his plight, stating, “I had dreams of pursuing higher studies, but Nandini’s actions forced me to abandon them. With no employment, I am left dependent, while she operates a beauty parlor. Hence, I rightfully seek financial support from her.”
Contrary to Nandini’s claims of unemployment, Aman revealed that she had filed a missing person report when he sought shelter with his parents, wherein she disclosed her occupation as a beauty parlor owner. Despite Nandini’s assertion that Aman is the breadwinner, she failed to substantiate her claim.
As a result, the court ruled in Aman’s favor, relieving him of the obligation to cohabit with Nandini while ordering her to provide him with Rs 5,000 monthly support. This verdict marks a significant milestone in family court jurisprudence, acknowledging the complexities of marital discord and addressing the financial needs of the disadvantaged party.
