Will North East become speed breaker of BJP’s ‘Mission 370’?

2 min read

Kolkata (Team Newsbuddy): For the Lok Sabha elections, BJP has set a target of 370 seats across the country. Also, a target of Mission 400 has been set for NDA. To accomplish the mission, BJP is making a strategy for every seat. BJP also has high hopes from the 26 seats of North East. However, BJP has changed its strategy this time. In earlier elections, BJP used to have ‘friendly fight’ with its allies at many places on some seats. However, in this election, BJP is working on a strategy to avoid ‘friendly fight’ to win as many seats as possible.

What did Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma say?

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma has said that NDA allies in the Northeast have planned to support other NDA allies for the Lok Sabha elections. In Meghalaya, NDA is supporting NPP. On Manipur seat, we are all supporting NPF. It is worth noting that Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP) is the main ally of BJP in the Northeast. Also, NPP is the only party in the Northeast which has the status of a national party.

Is NDA adopting the strategy of India Alliance?

Regarding this strategy of NDA in the Northeast, experts believe that the ruling alliance has adopted the formula of one candidate per seat, learning from the opposition alliance. Also, many parties of the India Alliance had suggested to the Congress that the distribution of seats should be done on the basis of the strength of its allies. However, this could not happen. BJP has ensured that there is no friendly fight in the NDA to reduce the division of votes.

Assam Minister and AGP Chief Atul Bora said that our constituency committees and district committees are here to discuss with the BJP. We hope that this strategy will work as we are contesting only two seats. But NDA can win all 14 seats in Assam as the situation has changed a lot.

What is the math of North East politics?
There are 8 states in North East including Assam. Assam has 14 Lok Sabha seats. In the other seven states, BJP-supported parties are in power. BJP has been winning the assembly elections in Assam for the last 2 terms. In the last election, BJP had won 9 seats. This time BJP wants to win all the 26 seats in North East including Assam.
