1 min readNew Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): The hope of bringing Pakistani-origin Canadian citizen Tahawwur Rana to India has increased. In fact, US Assistant Attorney Bram Alden has told the US Court of Appeals that Tahawwur Rana can be extradited to India under the provisions of the India-US extradition treaty. Tahawwur Rana is accused of being involved in the 2008 Mumbai attack.
Tahawwur Rana has appealed against extradition in a California district court. The US government had approved the Indian government’s request to extradite Tahawwur Rana to India, but against this, Tahawwur Rana filed a habeas corpus petition in the US district court, due to which Rana’s extradition to India was stuck. Now during the hearing on the petition, American lawyer Alden told the court that Rana can be extradited to India under the provisions of the treaty. India has also proved probable cause to prosecute him for his role in the Mumbai attack.
