Sadness prevails over people of Gaza on Eid

Gaza : Palestinians living on the Rafah border told the media how different Eid last year and this year are for them.

Haroun al-Medalal says that “despite the pain, destruction, displacement and constant shelling, we are people who love life.”

Haroun, who lives in a shelter home in Rafah, said that some Palestinian women are making cookies. They are trying to bring smiles to the faces of orphaned children who have lost their parents and family members in Israeli attacks.

Some are sad on this Eid.”

He says, earlier they used to “go to the houses of relatives and neighbors to congratulate Eid and the children used to celebrate,” but now they are “living in displacement.”

However, they insisted they would stay strong, celebrate Eid, call relatives and meet those who have been killed.

Many people in southern Gaza are visiting the graves of their loved ones and offering prayers to mark Eid .

The BBC journalist spoke to Elham, a 40-year-old woman living in the southern city of Rafah.
Elham’s house is now a pile of rubble, with only one room surviving the bombing and her family now living in it.
